Magcloud Digest: The Enhanced Business Card
I've been referring to this as my 'Enhanced Business Card', it's a Digest format soft-back book printed by Magcloud. If we have a business card, many photographers are using the Moo type with a photograph on the back - I've got some. Moo does a great job, if you want it, every card can feature a different image.
But it's one image. I've been there so many times, you hand over the card, and the only thing that person has at that moment to judge your photography on is that image. "Thanks, that's great," they say. While I'm following it up with, "Look at my website, you can see my recent projects. And there's my Instagram, there's loads of stuff on there". Maybe they will or maybe they won't.
The quote, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression," has been attributed to people as various as Oscar Wilde and Will Rogers. Whoever it was they're wise words.
Inevitably, the person with the card has made a judgement about your photography from that one image. If it's a landscape and you're talking to them about a social documentary project, will it convince them you can deliver on your promises?
So, the Enhanced Business Card. Yes, they cost more than a standard business card. If I order 20, they'll be $2.18 each (delivered to the UK). Less than an overpriced cup of coffee. If I give away one a week, I'll be doing well, so it's affordable, and I really should drink less coffee.
For that $2.18 I get to include sixteen images, of course, that could be more, and some text if you want to. A photographer who can write as well that may work! But importantly for me, it covers documentary, portraits and events. That seems a pretty good deal.
I may tinker with this a little further, time, that's one of the few upsides to the current hiatus.
More details about the Magcloud Digest are in my previous post. If you have any questions, let me know.
And as always, let's be careful out there.
