Gravesham: A Day in the Life

Evie, Evie’s Sewing Centre, 12 Queen Street.

On Saturday, 1st June, anyone with a camera (or a phone) was invited to take part in Gravesham’s first Day in the Life shoot, part of the Gravesham Fringe Festival.

The aim is to make it an annual event documenting the changes in the borough from year to year.

I took portraits of shopkeepers in some of Gravesend’s small shops. Thank you to all those who agreed to take part. I had the pleasure of meeting some lovely people and learning a little about the history of some of Gravesend’s longest-established small shops.

Juli, Julis Creations, 74 High Street, Gravesend.

Peter, Chalk Garden Rail/Legion Retreat, 4 Brewhouse Yard.

Jack, Reliance Fish Bar, 4 Queen Street.

Jim, Munns, 8–9 Windmill Street. Gravesend’s longest established shop.

Jasbir, Mad Sales, 18 Queen Street.
